50 Cent regrets being overly generous to rappers on his label, G-Unit Records. The rapper spent $8.5 million on the artists he signed to his label so they could bring their entourages on tour and remain comfortable while performing.
50 has manned up and told his protégés that he will no longer be supporting them. “I broke it down,” he told XXL Magazine. “I told them I wouldn’t be assisting them financially anymore. Pretty much I was telling them I wouldn’t be there. Before they’d make a lot of money and spend a lot of money and have me there to fix it.”
The creator of G-Unit told a group of artists including Olivia, Lloyd Banks, and Prodigy that their free ride had come to an end. He also lost his temper when he realized that he was the only one in the room wearing G-Unit sneakers, proving the artists’ collective lack of loyalty to his brand.
“They were being paid,” he raged. “It had become the norm for the check to come, but they were no longer wearing the clothes.”
